About Us

 

Our team of exercise physiologists, personal trainers and massage therapists provide clients with a unique and holistic approach to their health and wellbeing. Our team members share the philosophy that there is more to exercise than pounding the treadmill and 'pumping out' the weights. We believe that exercise should be fun and enjoyable, and most importantly, fit into your lifestyle. With this in mind, we have created a centre that is welcoming, comfortable and relaxed to offer you a range of fun and functional training programs that train your body the way it's designed to be used.

 

Our Staff

Tania Messervy

Tania Messervy is the brains behind Lifestyle Health and Fitness. An exercise physiologist with degrees in Human Movement Studies and Sports Management, Tania is studying a Masters in Exercise Science with a focus on rehabilitation. She is also a lecturer with the Queensland Academy of Fitness where she teaches the personal trainers of the future.

Tania doesn’t believe in ‘flogging’ people at the gym - instead she tries to understand exactly what they're looking to achieve through exercise. She likes to make exercise fun for her clients, rather than a chore and looks at people’s daily life and routine to see how they can extend or alter their current activities to become a form of exercise. Tania is passionate about the mind and body benefits of exercise, but also understands that not everyone likes the gym or getting into the latest lycra outfits. With this in mind, she takes a different approach to exercise to ensure that everyone receives a fitness solution that matches their individual requirements.

Tania is married to Roger and has two cats and a galah. She enjoys photography, camping and generally being outdoors. She is an ex-netball player and has recently turned her sporting talent towards lawn bowls.

 

Mike Bakker

Mike is the ‘gentle giant’ of the LifeStyle Health and Fitness team. He’s Dutch, tall, looks very fit and has an interest in Thai kick-boxing, but don’t let the exterior fool you! Mike is a versatile personal trainer and can work with a wide range of personalities. Want to be seriously challenged during your sessions? Mike can do that. Need someone that can be understanding and nurturing? Mike can do that. Want to exercise with a friend and have fun while you’re doing it? Mike can even do that too.

Mike has a Certificate IV in Fitness with specialties in personal training, older adults’ fitness and children’s fitness. Mike’s sessions are always innovative – if you’re looking for the same boring weights exercises you could get at your local gym, Mike isn’t the trainer for you. Mike is constantly looking for that little edge that makes his sessions more effective, more challenging or more interesting for his clients. And if the right type of exercise doesn’t exist, he’ll makes up a completely new one for you!

Mike and his wife, Lina, have a 4-year old son. When Mike isn’t helping people be fitter and healthier, he’s either at the Wiggles with his son, or helping Lina with her textile importing business.

 

Roger Messervy

Roger is the wonderful husband of Tania and co-owner of LifeStyle Health & Fitness.  He looks after the human resource and facility management aspects of the business and is currently studying towards achieving his Certificate IV in Fitness (specialising in personal training).

Roger officially trained as a high school teacher and uses his excellent skills in communication to ‘bring out the best’ in people. His interests in helping others live healthier, fitter and happier lives comes from his own experience with battling body weight. Roger is empathetic yet empowering and will help his clients recognise that health and fitness is not necessarily about being stick-thin, but about looking after your mind and your body!

When Roger isn’t working, he’s fishing or camping. Roger also loves food, so if he’s not fishing or camping, he’s cooking. And if everything works out really well, he’s cooking a fish on an open fire whilst camping.
