LifeStyle Health & Fitness was established by Tania Messervy, one of Brisbane’s most experienced personal trainers and exercise physiologists. We specialise in personal training and small group fitness training that is truly designed to accommodate people of all different fitness levels, health backgrounds and injury requirements. Our primary location at Roma Street Parklands makes us the perfect choice for people living or working in the Brisbane CBD and inner Brisbane City suburbs.

At LifeStyle Health and Fitness, we believe you should exercise your body the way it is designed to be used. The whole philosophy behind our fitness training is to 'isolate, then integrate.' Traditional gym exercises focus on isolating muscle groups, or isolating joint movements. Take the common bench press exercise as an example - it's an exercise designed to increase muscular fitness (strength, power, size or endurance) in the chest muscles and the muscles at the back of the arms and is generally performed when you are lying on your back. It's an effective exercise at targeting the chest muscles in particular, but does it train the body the way we would normally use it? To answer that question, think about the last time you lay flat on your back and pushed a weight off your chest - for most of us, that wouldn't be very often.
The bench press exercise is an example of isolating the movement away from how you would normally use the chest muscles and muscles in the back of the arms. The exercise is great at building the muscular fitness in those muscle groups, but doesn't necessarily help us use those muscles more effectively in our day-to-day living. Therefore, we need to take the improvements we've gained from the exercise and integrate these improvements into how we would normally use these muscles.
One thing that you will notice straight away when you walk into our studio is that we don't have very much equipment. That's because you don't need it. At LifeStyle Health and Fitness, we focus on personal fitness solutions for individuals or small groups. Larger fitness centres require more equipment because they have a larger number of people exercising independently at the same time, and because weights machines decrease the risk of injury when people are unsupervised. However, weights machines can be more detrimental in training the body the way it's designed to be used because it takes away the need for joint stability and the freedom of joint range of motion. Also, at LifeStyle Health and Fitness, you are fully supervised when you exercise and therefore you can have piece of mind that you're performing your exercises properly!
Our training philosophy is also based on making exercise as an enjoyable as possible for our clients. That's why we've designed a range of personal fitness solutions - between our CQT for Me and personal training solutions, there's something for everyone! Plus, our massage service allows you to relax, unwind and recover from your exercise sessions!
